Luminescent Ionic Liquid Crystals Based on Naphthalene‐Imidazolium Unit

In this article, we describe an efficient synthetic pathway and the characterization of liquid crystal luminescent imidazolium salts based on a naphthalene unit. The imidazolium-naphthalene rigid part is decorated with benzyl group functionalized by two or three dodecyloxy chains. A crystalline structure shows unambiguously segregation between ionic flexible parts conducive to emergence mesomorphic properties. complete thermotropic properties study these has been carried out according different anions. alkyl tail number variation therefore amphipathic character (balance hydrophilic/hydrophobic) makes it possible induce state architectures self-organization in layers (Smectic A) columns (Columnar hexagonal). Finally, photophysical were measured solution solid at room temperature showed photoluminescence quantum yields around 20 %.
